BERTOLI was founded many decades ago, taking origin from the company of Corrado Bertoli who founded, in the thirties of the last century in Pomarance – which is a typical agricultural site of the Alta Val di Cecina, not far from Larderello, a famous international geothermal site – his activity for the manufacturing of agricultural equipment.
It is precisely the proximity to the geothermal site that will give way to the “Costruzioni Meccaniche Bertoli”, managed by Alberto Bertoli, son of Corrado, to develop his talent, inventive skills and his great dedication to scientific and technological research .
During his early years, Corrado bought a new workshop: he worked hard and soon needed help. He employed the first two apprentices, proving to be a strict and respectful teacher, able to strengthen projects and people.
When his son Alberto grew up, he began working in the family workshop. In 1953, at the age of 15, he designed and built his first combined carpentry machine: a horizontal mortiser, circular saw and moulding machine. This was the beginning of Alberto’s career in mechanical engineering: he preferred iron to wood. He read many specialist magazines and at the age of 17, he decided to go to Milan, where he enrolled in an industrial electronics course. Over the years, he designed and produced many prototypes, both for small industries and for large groups, such as Enel s.p.a. and Solvay.
In 1970 he met an exporter who needed special equipment: a window case machine for tubes with a diameter of 600 mm, used for the extraction of water in the desert. Alberto worked intensely on this project and in a year he managed to build it. In this way, he obtained the necessary money to buy a new workshop and new machinery.
Bertoli’s name and patents spread, they crossed the ocean and arrived at the United Nations: Alberto built electromechanical equipment for Bolivia, Djibouti, Greece, Turkey and many other parts of the world.
In the mid-80s, Roberto and Elisabetta, Alberto’s children, began to work with their father and in a short time, Alberto began the construction of a new plant in the industrial area of Pomarance.
In 2001 the company began to produce special tanks for the Eastern market, obtaining registration at the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and, in 2004, it began to specialise in the production of mobile plants for concrete.
In the years 2000, the company’s overall workforce includes thirty employees among engineers, accountants, industrial experts and workers: all staff are highly qualified, with extensive experience in their field of work.
BERTOLI grew and worked until the end of the first decade of 2000 when, due to the strong crisis surrounding the world markets and in particular the construction sector, it was forced to strongly shink in size. From that moment on, without losing heart, thanks to the work of Alberto’s Children, Roberto and Elisabetta Bertoli, all the projects of the family company, which became Bertoli Italia Srls, are reordered and redirected.
Strong from the experience gained during the years of work alongside his father Alberto and in the numerous trips abroad – touching practically all the continents – alongside a few trusted collaborators, Roberto Bertoli managed to resume the Bertoli brand, redesigning, building and marketing some of the plants that have made its name great in the world of road and civil construction.
